biography

Justin Danger Ryan Smith Shelton was born long ago in a far off land called Michigan. He didn't live there long. When his parents broke up, he moved with his mom to Phoenix, AZ.

In high school, Shelton was a bit of a class clown. He was voted Most Outgoing, mainly for making a fool of himself at school assemblies and on the school news. He directed and acted in several school plays. He got the lead in two musicals even though he can't carry a tune. He wrote for the school newspaper and was editor of the sports section. He also wrote hard hitting exposes like 'Why Radio Sucks'.

During this time, Shelton was a ball boy for the Phoenix Suns. This was back when the Suns were actually good.

Shelton went to Arizona State University. It was fun there. He learned a lot at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and the Hugh Downs School of Communication.

After his first degree, Justin went to Full Sail University in Orlando, FL. There he studied film and learned the tricks of the movie trade. He made his first real short film during this time, 'Jungle', about race and the Vietnam War. Heavy stuff, man.

After Full Sail, Shelton moved to Los Angeles. He quickly landed a job working on 'Jim Rome is Burning' for ESPN. He got to shoot his own segments for the show, edit and produce them. He also worked on Survivor for two seasons, even though he still has never seen a full episode of the show.

Justin djayed at many cool bars, clubs and events in LA. He was really lucky to have been at so many neat places and to rock so many crowds.

Shelton landed his dream job of being PA on 'Where the Wild Things Are' directed by Spike Jonze. Spike is awesome and really nice. This granted him access to Warner Bros. where he made friends with lots of people. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Anna, when she was signing up people for Greenpeace outside of a Trader Joe's. He would eventually marry Anna and have lots of fun adventures with her.

Justin entered the Management Trainee Program at Warner Bros. and he worked for the Worldwide President of Physical Production. During this time, he shot a couple of other shorts, including 'Tag' which played at a couple of film festivals.

After the trainee program, Shelton worked in Visual Effects for the studio, starting as assistant and working his way up to production supervisor. During this time, he met lots of very big named stars and directors, many of which he would name drop to random passing people. During this time, he wrote a ton of screenplays that made it to the semi finals of screen writing festivals. His short 'The Do Over' was picked up by Yahoo! and seen 800,000 times in two days on their site. He also played some film festivals with his short 'Momentary'.

Justin moved over to animation, where he worked on the film 'Storks'. He made friends with lots of people there too. He even got to have his voice in the movie.

Shelton wrote a short of the Blu Ray release of Storks. He also wrote a treatment for the virtual reality release of the animated film Smallfoot.

Justin and Anna had a little baby boy named Thomas. He's awesome. They tried their hands at living in Ann Arbor, MI for a year. Shelton DJed professionally on some really cool gigs and helped make and produce some commercials. During this time, he worked his butt off writing his best script to date ‘I.R.L. In Real Life’.

Shelton missed LA too much. Home is where the heart is. He packed up his family and moved everything back across the country in pursuit of the Manifest Destiny dream of California and the land of Hollywood.

Shelton worked at Sony Pictures Animation in development and on the feature film “Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse”. He was Production Manager at Netflix on a feature film that was canceled.

Shelton and his writing partner sold a pitch and wrote drafts for an animated horror film “Inheritance” to Sony Pictures Animation.
